East Baton Rouge Parish board approves wide consent agenda including early‑childhood grants and recommended assessment platform

At its June 11 meeting the East Baton Rouge Parish School Board approved a 12‑page consent agenda that bundled the proposed 2026–27 budgets and salary schedules with a large set of contracts, grants and program approvals.
Major consent items the board approved included: the proposed 2026–27 general fund and special revenue budgets and salary schedules; authorization for administration to advertise and award routine bids through June 30, 2027; selection of The Advocate as the district’s official journal for advertising; renewal authority for property and casualty insurance; and an RFP recommendation to select Otis LLC to implement an assessment platform.
The consent packet also contained multiple early‑childhood grant awards and Memoranda of Understanding. Examples listed in the packet included a LA4 early childhood allocation (amounts stated in the published packet), Ready Start Network support, a Birth to Five Preschool Development Grant, and an Early Childhood Education fund grant. The board approved contracts and MOUs to expand early‑childhood seats with a set of community providers and charter partners.
Other approved professional services and program contracts included recommendations for NIET, Great Minds (Eureka Math Squared), Amplify (MCLASS intervention licenses), K12 Insight, Renaissance/Nearpod K–2 supplemental curriculum resources, and additional vendors to support instructional materials, attendance supports and parent/family communications.
Public commenters urged the board to unpack especially large or unfamiliar contracts in separate agenda items in future meetings to improve transparency. The board did not remove any items from the consent agenda at this meeting and proceeded with a single motion to approve all consent items.
What it means: By approving the consent agenda the board has authorized the superintendent and staff to finalize and execute contracts and grants described in the packet, allowing the district to implement assessment, instructional and early‑childhood programs aligned with the new budget.
