Cotati proclaims June 19, 2026 Juneteenth; Sonoma State BFSA accepts proclamation

On June 9, Cotati City Council read and adopted a proclamation recognizing June 19, 2026 as Juneteenth. Councilmember Ben Ford read the proclamation and invited representatives of Sonoma State University's Black Faculty and Staff Association to accept it.
Tmaine Austin Dylan, who introduced himself as a senior diversity officer at Sonoma State University, thanked the council and described campus Juneteenth activities, including a CSU symposium watch party, a flag-raising event on June 18 and a catered Juneteenth lunch on June 19. "Junth is sacred because it calls us to remember to celebrate and to continue the work of freedom," he said, adding that the BFSA focuses on community building and support for Black students, faculty and staff.
Cabrina Boyd, an admissions specialist, and Each Zeniga, associate director of pre-collegiate programs, also spoke about the BFSA's mission and invited residents to participate in SSU events. The council took a photograph with the BFSA representatives and the proclamation was memorialized on the meeting record.
The council noted the civic significance of Juneteenth and highlighted local opportunities to attend SSU events around the holiday.
