Selectmen approve temporary summer road closure for Central Middle School sanitary work

The Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a request to temporarily close Indian Rock Lane and part of Stanwich Road this summer to allow Turner Construction to relocate sanitary piping and manholes related to the Central Middle School project.
Peter Alfano, site superintendent for Turner Construction, said the work is expected to begin after the school year and run roughly six to eight weeks, with traffic detoured around the campus via Orchard Street and Stanwich Road. He warned crews may need to excavate deeply: "the excavations that we need to do along Indian Rock Lane, which were upwards of 18 to 20 feet deep," Alfano said.
Turner and the town's owner's representative, JLL, will coordinate neighbor notifications and the building committee will assist with outreach. Officials said residents' driveways on Stanwich Road and Indian Rock Lane would not be blocked and the contractor will work to complete and repave the road as quickly as feasible. The motion to approve was made by Lauren Raven, seconded by Rachel Conn, and carried 3–0.
Staff asked Turner to provide periodic updates to the board while the work is underway.
