Kingman commission continues Broadway Avenue vacation after transit concerns

The Kingman Planning & Zoning Commission opened a public hearing June 10 on AB25‑00005, a request to vacate and potentially sell a portion of Broadway Avenue while reserving an easement for public utilities and access, but then voted to continue the matter off calendar to allow further coordination with adjacent property owners and public works.
Staff told the commission the right‑of‑way in question sits northeast of Stockton Hill and is flanked by automotive dealerships and a hotel; if vacated the city would reserve easements to preserve public utilities and access. Staff recommended continuing the item so the applicant can work with an adjoining property owner and so staff can produce relocation exhibits before restarting the public‑hearing process.
During public comment resident Robert Keys said he lives directly behind the stretch under consideration and raised a practical concern: “I live right behind where they're going to close that there and that's like a major bus route right there. Three buses coming in there and all these people use that road.” The commission asked staff how transit access would be addressed.
A staff member responded that public works has been working on potential relocation sites for the bus stop and that alternatives within close proximity have been identified; staff said both a blue and a red bus line serve the area and that the applicant has been informed of the alternative locations. Staff said the project would be renoticed and given a new public hearing once the property‑owner coordination and relocation exhibits are available.
The commission then voted to continue AB25‑00005 off calendar; staff explained the continuation will trigger a new public notice and hearing and that any exhibit showing relocated stop locations will be provided when the item returns. No final decision on vacating the roadway was made at the meeting.
