FCC restrictions force county to notify residents of new phone numbers by mail

Brett Schriock, Madison County IT Director, told commissioners on March 9 that the county could not forward its existing phone numbers to the new telephone-service provider because of restrictions imposed by the Federal Communications Commission.
Schriock said the county plans to dispatch mailers to residents with the new county phone numbers and asked the board to authorize that action. Commissioners agreed to include the authorization on the upcoming regular meeting agenda so formal approval can be obtained.
The work session included discussion but no vote on mailer authorization; the matter will return to the regular meeting for formal action.
