Nursing-home administrator says occupational-therapy shortage limits admissions

Preece, participating by WebEx, said Ruby Valley Medical Center “requires an occupational therapist; once the necessary personnel are secured, the nursing home will be able to admit residents requiring occupational therapy services.” Becky DeBoer asked about the status of recent surveys at the nursing homes and suggested interviewing former employees as part of the review.
Commissioner Duke W. Gilman confirmed the county is coordinating follow-up on staffing and survey interviews but did not announce a timeline for when the nursing home could begin admitting residents needing occupational therapy. The exchange focused on operational readiness rather than a formal policy decision; no motions were taken at the work session.
The board is scheduled to meet next week for its regular commissioners meeting, where staff may present further updates or recommendations.
