The Chester County Commission voted unanimously to award the fairgrounds panel contract to the lowest bidder, Slidell, after a committee review of five bids.
Commissioner Luke Weaver, summarizing the committee’s recommendation, said the low bid was roughly $35,000 and reflected a $10,000 discount the supplier offers to fairgrounds and public municipalities. "These panels are necessary for the agricultural complex... I believe they hold rough estimate 325 animals," Weaver said, and commissioners noted the county expects more than 400 small animals at an August event.
County staff confirmed the panels will be paid from a Tennessee Department of Agriculture grant of $150,000 and will not come from the county’s general fund. The commission approved the award by roll call with every commissioner voting yes (17–0).
The purchase is intended to ensure the agricultural complex can host upcoming livestock shows; staff noted the panels are sized for small animals (goats, sheep, hogs) rather than cattle or horses.
