Village staff notified trustees that the Illinois Department of Labor/OSHA issued a citation related to work at the pavilion. The citation identified two issues: improper ladder use and insufficient fall protection during ridge-work. The letter described the violation as "serious," and staff said the village had submitted evidence of corrective actions.
Jim, a parks/facilities staff member, explained the practical difficulties of fall protection on a low-pitch roof and said the village hired a company to conduct retraining on fall protection and aerial equipment in the coming month. "We got the gear. Just had to make sure we were using it," Jim said. Staff emphasized they had not been fined but must provide documentation of corrective actions and retraining to OSHA.
Trustees asked about the village's OSHA history; staff said the village has had no incidents in the last 10 years and that the inspector complimented their general safety record. Staff will return documentation to the board after finalizing training and required filings.
