Boxelder County votes to ask inland port authority to remove county lands, adopts multiple ordinances and makes appointments

The commission voted to ask the inland port authority to remove Boxelder County parcels from the Golden Spike Inland Port, adopted several zoning and road ordinances (652–656), approved a contract for court bailiff services and appointed members to the East Garland Cemetery Board.
At its May 27 meeting the Boxelder County Commission took a series of administrative and legislative actions, including a directive to ask the Utah Inland Port authority to remove county parcels from the Golden Spike project area and several land-use votes.
Commissioner Perry moved that the county attorney draft correspondence asking the inland-port authority to remove Boxelder County lands the county previously placed in the project area; Commissioner Bingham seconded and the motion passed. Sean Mil, county economic-development director, told the commission there was no active development on county parcels "at this particular time" but summarized prior project-area concepts such as cold-storage and refrigerative opportunities.
Community Development Director Scott Lions presented multiple ordinances. The commission adopted Ordinance 656 (which repeals and replaces Ordinance 649) to correct a legal description that had inadvertently included a 15-acre parcel; adopted Ordinance 652 to vacate a county road/right-of-way in the Clear Creek area; and adopted Ordinance 653 to rezone approximately 514 acres to an Agricultural Heritage Zone after planning-commission recommendation. Each ordinance was moved and seconded and carried during the meeting.
The commission also approved contract 26-25 — the annual agreement with the state for district-court bailiff services — after Chief Deputy Kate Palmer said the contract terms were unchanged aside from higher per-bailiff costs. Palmer said the county attorney's office is reviewing state budget timing and reimbursement questions for future negotiations.
The clerk's office presented four applicants for the East Garland Cemetery Board. The commission appointed Corey Ballard, Larry Hess and Colleen Schaefer as voting members and added Dave Schaefer as a non-voting alternate/secretary.
Commissioners also approved a letter of appreciation recognizing the Boys and Girls Club of Northern Utah for establishing a community resource center in Brigham City and supporting local nonprofits and homelessness services.
Most motions were adopted by unanimous voice vote; staff noted the county still faces public concern about large-scale development and will carry out follow-up work as needed.
