Brookings council delays transportation and safety plans, adds executive session

Wendell also moved to remove item 10A (the Brookings Transportation Plan) and item 10B (the Brookings Area Safety Plan and 2050 Brookings Vision Zero) from the evening's agenda; that amendment also passed.
The council said the transportation and safety plans will return for consideration at its June 23 meeting so residents have adequate time to review the comprehensive materials posted on the city's website. "We wanted to give members of the public adequate time to read that plan before we take action on adopting the recommendations that are in the plan," a council member said during the meeting.
The motions were approved on roll call; the clerk recorded votes of all present council members in favor. The city manager later confirmed both plans would be on the June 23 agenda and that packet links would be provided to council and the public.
The meeting record shows the executive session is authorized under the cited state statute; the presiding officer noted no action would be taken following the executive session.
What happens next: the transportation and safety plans remain available on the city's website for review and will be placed on the June 23 council agenda for further discussion and possible adoption.
