Somers schools to reroute buses as Route 202 culvert repair nears; district planning contingencies

"Throughout the duration of this project, there will be no transit along 202 past Warren Street," Dr. Bronstein said, and he added that district staff and town officials have been coordinating with DOT and local legislators to limit the disruption.
The district said it has been working with a town task force to request that the DOT complete the work before the 2026–27 school year begins. Dr. Bronstein said the district has been assured the project will be finished in time but that administrators are making contingency plans in case the work runs later than expected because the closure would substantially disrupt local traffic and bus routes to Somers Intermediate and Somers Middle schools.
Parents and staff were told the town will post updates and notifications through the town’s Code Red system; the superintendent also directed families with questions about the culvert project to the Somers town supervisor’s office. The district said it will provide status reports and share any bus‑routing changes as planning continues.
Next steps: the administration will report any confirmed routing changes or schedule updates to families and post them through the district and town channels; the board did not take formal action at the meeting beyond the update from Dr. Bronstein.
