The Village of Waukesha village board approved several routine and contract items at its June 11 meeting, including a change order for the 2026 road program, a site-plan recommendation for an online-sales business, a transient merchant license and an architectural contract approved after a closed session.
Road program change order: Public staff member Greg presented a recommended change order to Stark Pavement to replace two deteriorated concrete panels on Sunset Drive for $19,875, including traffic control, saw cutting, base course, steel reinforcement and concrete pavement. Board members discussed a tight road budget (roughly a $500,000 allocation for the major projects this year) but noted it is cost-effective to add the work while the contractor is mobilized. A motion to approve the $19,875 change order carried.
Business site-plan approval: The planning commission recommended approval of a plan of operation for Max Suruba, doing business as Hardwater Freaks LLC, for Unit 19 at 239 S. Big Ben Road (tax key WAKT1351996023). Staff described the use as indoor storage for online sales of apparel and fishing/hunting accessories, with no walk-in customers, limited deliveries and no outdoor storage. The plan commission recommended approval subject to standard conditions; the village board approved that recommendation.
Transient merchant license: The board granted a solicitor/transient merchant license to Eco Shield (pest control) by voice vote.
Closed session and architect contract: The board convened in closed session under Wis. Stat. §19.85 to negotiate a draft contract with Fiser Fiser and Ty Incorporated for an addition and remodel of the fire-station building. After returning to open session the board approved the contract with modifications discussed in closed session; the final contract language is to be approved by the village president.
Payments approved: The board approved payments as read into the record; the transcript contains a garbled amount ("$118,70.31"), which could not be reliably parsed from the recorded text and should be verified with the clerk’s office.
All of the above motions were recorded by voice vote. Several items carried without extended debate; the crematorium concept review discussed earlier in the meeting concluded with no formal determination because no motion was made.
