Board: bond projects to begin, oversight advisory committee to be formed

The East Meadow Union Free School District announced on June 10 that bond-funded capital projects will begin immediately at Bowling Green, and that the district is forming a bond oversight advisory committee to provide community review and quarterly updates.
The board president said permits for the bond work are in place and that the district will begin playground and safety-vestibule projects as early as next Monday at Bowling Green. The district plans to publish project photos and a status chart for each school on a newly updated “Reimagined Bond” page of the district website.
On transparency, the chair said the district is launching a bond oversight advisory committee. "That application will be emailed to 10,000 people within the next 2 weeks. It'll also be posted on the website," the chair said, explaining the committee will take one community member from each school, include a Board of Education member, and meet four times a year to review bond updates.
District leaders said the bond work and oversight committee are intended to maintain community trust in the project timeline and spending. The board did not discuss contract awards or specific dollar amounts at the meeting; administrators said status charts showing each school’s approved items and phases will be available online.
