Adair County approves Secondary Roads five-year construction program, OKs right-of-way for Grand River culvert

The Adair County Board of Supervisors on April 29 approved the Secondary Roads Five-Year Construction Program after a presentation from County Engineer Nick Kauffman and also approved two right-of-way agreements for the NW20 Grand River RCB Culvert project.
Kauffman told the board crews have been backfilling south of Stuart and removing a bridge superstructure; pile driving may occur next week. Ditching work at Casey was finished and crews will return to deepen where the DOT completed work; burning near Cass County is being used to manage native vegetation and brush. Kauffman said he had sent a letter about junk in a ditch near Zion and confirmed that a permit and road-use agreement should be in place for a crane move near Stuart (the crane is currently in Arbor Hill).
Kauffman also noted Schildberg’s rock contract should start Monday, and he is still seeking interest in performing floodplain permits after Region 12 stopped doing that service. The board approved two right-of-way contracts to Kent Kiburz for the NW20 Grand River culvert project (project code L-LRCBNW20GR073-01).
Supervisors approved the five-year program and right-of-way motions unanimously (motion by Baier, seconded by Christoffersen). Kauffman said he plans upcoming training events and meetings with MidAmerican about windfarm activity; he noted occasional road-department mistakes such as gravel placement that are corrected later.
