Town staff reported on FOIL appeal 137024 at the Jan. 7 work session and the board voted to ratify the denial.
A staff representative (speaker S11) told the board the town did not maintain the exact document requested, but the information had been compiled in an Excel spreadsheet and provided to the appellant within the applicable timeframe. After discussion about the appeal process and transparency, Deputy Supervisor (speaker S4) moved to ratify the appeal decision; the motion was seconded and the board voted 4–1, with the supervisor (speaker S1) recording an abstention.
Staff and board members discussed FOIL volumes: staff said the town received about 1,500 FOIL requests in 2024 and roughly five appeals during the year. An official reminded the board that an appellant may seek further review through the state’s process, including Article 78 proceedings, if dissatisfied with the municipal decision.
The ratification concluded with the clerk confirming a physical quorum and that Councilmember Sheehan’s remote vote counted under the town’s public‑meeting notice. The board proceeded to other agenda items.
