The San Ramon Valley Unified School District board approved a new middle‑school math adoption, selecting Amplify Desmos after a multi‑school pilot and classroom visits by trustees and staff.
Executive Director Annabelle Herbert and math coordinator Tiffany Zamut summarized the adoption process, noting a pilot involving approximately 2,400 students across multiple middle schools and a review that included an independent evaluation (EdReports). Zamut said the curriculum is aligned to California standards and contains materials and a separate teacher edition that addresses language development and supports for English learners.
"Within each unit or lesson there’s support, strengthen, and stretch," Zamut said, describing built‑in differentiation and resources to challenge students who already grasp a concept while providing scaffolds for those who need extra help.
Trustees who visited classrooms reported seeing students actively engaged in discourse and group work; one trustee said the visits "painted a picture" of what the lessons look like in practice. Public commenter Elena Forosa urged the board to ensure English‑language‑proficiency (ELPAC) supports and digital access are available for all students and asked staff to clarify the pilot timeline and technology access for parents.
After questions from trustees and public comment, the board adopted the curriculum by voice vote. Staff said they will continue to provide family-facing resources and language supports and will monitor implementation.
