Westfield council adopts two bond ordinances to fund parking, restroom and turf-field projects

The Westfield Town Council on June 5 adopted two bond ordinances to fund facility improvements at town athletic complexes, the council announced.
Mayor Jeremy Burman said the first ordinance would appropriate an additional $862,000 for improvements to the pool/field parking lot, restrooms and a multipurpose facility; the second ordinance would appropriate about $880,000 to replace two synthetic turf athletic fields that the mayor said have reached the end of their useful life. Both measures authorize a down payment and the issuance of bonds and bond anticipation notes to finance the appropriations.
Both ordinances were the subject of advertised hearings. Clerk Ms. Lowshi read each ordinance aloud and opened the floor for public comment; no members of the public spoke and each hearing was closed. Councilman Pcker moved adoption of the first ordinance, which was seconded by Councilman Armento; the motion carried on the council vote. The council subsequently moved and seconded adoption of the turf-replacement ordinance and approved it as well.
The ordinances now authorize the town to proceed with financing and project procurement steps, including issuance of bond anticipation notes as needed. No amendments were recorded during the council discussion, and no public testimony opposing the measures was entered into the record.
The council also approved routine minutes and other procedural items on the same agenda before moving on to resolution packages.
