The Stevensville Town Council on June 4 approved an interlocal agreement with Outback Firefighting that permits the company to draw water from a town hydrant for wildfire response and training. The agreement retains a $100 annual fee for hydrant use and a volumetric charge of $650 per 48,000 gallons, according to staff present at the meeting.
Council Member Ross declared a conflict of interest and recused himself from discussion because of existing contracts with his place of work. Staff described the operational procedure: Outback obtains a hydrant key from the town, fills tankers on site, reports quantities, and the town bills the company monthly for water drawn. Town staff also noted backflow prevention and water-quality safeguards that must be met before water is released to tanker trucks.
Council moved and seconded a motion to approve the unmetered water and interlocal agreement; the measure carried on the roll call recorded in the meeting. The council did not change the $100 annual fee at the meeting.
