Council approves discounted pool access for Sapphire Early Learning Center

On June 11 the Stevensville Town Council voted 3–0 to approve discounted pool access requested by Sapphire Early Learning Center.
Kelsey Mayan, director of Sapphire Early Learning Center, described the center’s request for summer programming: one open‑swim day per week at a discounted rate of $3 per child (reduced from the $5 open‑swim fee) plus one weekly group lesson at $65 per group (reduced from the $75 group lesson fee). Mayan said the center serves children whose parents work long hours and that the program would provide water‑safety exposure for children in a community bisected by the Big River.
Council asked about pool capacity, lifeguard certification and whether accompanying adults would be charged. Staff confirmed that lifeguards are certified and that adults accompanying children during open swim would typically be charged the standard fee unless otherwise arranged; Mayan said accompanying adults would usually be certified in CPR and that the center would coordinate scheduling and notify pool staff about group sizes.
Councilmembers and staff recommended the center provide a head‑count before visits so lifeguards can manage capacity. After that clarification, the council approved the discounted rate motion unanimously.
The council recorded that the motion carried and congratulated the center; the authorization allows staff to implement the discounted schedule and coordinate logistics with the center.
