Mead trustees back ballot issue 2B for police funding; one trustee votes no

The Mead Board of Trustees approved Resolution 61-R2025 on Oct. 13, 2025, expressing municipal support for ballot issue 2B, a sales-and-use tax measure on the Nov. 4 special election ballot that would provide revenues restricted to law enforcement services and facilities. The resolution passed by roll call with one trustee recorded in opposition.
Trustee Jesse Hagen explained his no vote, saying he supports public safety but opposes adding a new tax this year while alternatives remain unexamined. "This is the third year in a row this is being presented and... I will be voting against the resolution," Hagen said, noting he preferred exploring coordination with adjacent jurisdictions and other funding options before asking voters for a new levy.
Town attorney Marcus and staff said the resolution reflects the board's policy position and that any tax question will ultimately be decided by the voters on Nov. 4. Supporters emphasized the funding would be restricted to law-enforcement uses and used for staffing and facilities to meet community needs.
Vote: The motion to approve Resolution 61-R2025 passed on roll call with Trustees Adams and Cartwright and both Mayors recorded as yes and Trustee Hagen recorded as no.
