The Morris City Council approved on June 9 an engagement letter with Flattery and Hood PA to provide special legal counsel related to the city's law‑enforcement contract with Stevens County.
City Manager Johnson said the city’s regular attorney services are county employees and therefore not available to assist in negotiations with Stevens County. Johnson said the engagement will include a sheriff‑obligation analysis to identify baseline services the county provides and where the city might consider adding or reducing services. The firm was presented as a member‑discount provider for the Coalition of Greater Minnesota Cities and experienced with similar arrangements elsewhere in greater Minnesota.
Council members asked about the next steps; Johnson said the firm will review documents already provided, assemble a research team and then meet with county and city stakeholders. The council moved and seconded approval of the engagement; the motion passed by voice vote.
