City Attorney David told the El Segundo Planning Commission on June 11 that staff will place discussion of a proposed city charter on the City Council agenda the following week and will hold a town hall at city chambers on Wednesday, June 24 at 6 p.m.
David said the council's upcoming meeting will include further discussion of the proposed charter and that staff organized the town hall so residents can ask questions and learn more. He added that if the council approves sending a charter measure forward, subsequent scheduling and ballot placement are governed by statutory timing; staff noted the council could not finalize the charter immediately and said the earliest council approval would be July 7 under the timeline discussed.
The town hall is expected to be videotaped, David said, and staff invited commissioners and members of the public to attend and ask questions. The item will not come to the Planning Commission for a formal vote because the charter process is a council-level action; the commission was advised to avoid serial deliberations among a majority of members until public proceedings.
