Residents announce fair and senior center appeals for volunteers at council meeting

During the public-comment portion of the Sept. 4 Taylor Town Council meeting, two community speakers highlighted upcoming events and volunteer needs.
Jack Babb told the council the county fair will begin in six days, with a small-stock show Wednesday and large-stock classes on Thursday; the youth auction is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m. He encouraged residents and buyers to support local youth exhibitors and noted the town has provided past support.
Bill Plants, representing the Senior Center, described services including Meals on Wheels and congregate lunches and said the center serves about 100 meals daily, five days a week. Plants said volunteers staff the thrift store and food bank, which together distributed roughly 1,300 boxes in July after collecting more than 20,000 pounds of food from local stores. He said three to four part-time volunteers are urgently needed for food rescue and distribution because several long-term volunteers have retired or are ill.
Council did not take action on these public comments; public-comment rules were reiterated at the start of the meeting.
