Lapeer County approves sheriff’s office grants and technology contracts

The Lapeer County Board of Commissioners on May 28 approved a package of grants, renewals and vendor payments for the Sheriff’s Office, including a Michigan Department of Natural Resources grant for the Marine Division and contract renewals for software and camera licensing.
Motion 131-2026 accepted a DNR grant of $23,757 for the Sheriff’s Office Marine Division for the 2026 season. Motions 132-2026 and 133-2026 authorized renewal of the Sheriff’s App for $4,995 (vendor: OCV) and a one-year support agreement with TimeKeeping Systems for $5,785 (including two devices), each to be paid from the department’s line items and at no additional cost to the county’s general fund. Motion 134-2026 authorized payment of $10,725 to Motorola Solutions for the annual license related to the county’s video manager and body-worn cameras for the service period May 15, 2026, to May 14, 2027; the expense is budgeted to line #207-301-850.200.
Motion 135-2026 approved the second payment of pass-through membership funds to LEORTC in the amount of $9,665; the board noted these state funds are passed through the county twice yearly for MCOLES/LCOT training. All motions were carried as presented.
The motions were moved and supported by commissioners during the consent/departmental items portion of the meeting; C. Ian Kempf was the mover on most Sheriff-related items with Kevin Knisely as supporter. No additional county general-fund appropriation was approved for these items.
What happens next: The approved contracts and grants will be processed by the Finance Department and paid from the specified departmental lines.
