Mr. Miller said the model would use approximately 37 buses, redesigned routes and student-level mapping with GPS tracking and telematics to monitor location and on-time performance. The system aims to reduce total daily runs and miles traveled while enabling route-specific notifications to parents (for delays or breakdowns) rather than district-wide alerts.
Features discussed included potential onboard cameras with audio for accountability and the use of driver tablets for navigation. Board members raised concerns about mixed-grade transportation on shared buses; administration said bus monitors would be used on selected routes and disciplinary expectations would be enforced.
The committee was given an implementation target date of July 1 for a go-live, with continued refinement planned after launch. The item was informational; no committee vote was required.
