Fayette County to consolidate summer meal sites into three pickup locations; sign-ups required

The district will move from multiple daily feeding sites to bulk meal pickup Mondays and Thursdays (11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.) at three locations from May 28–July 16; parents/guardians of record must pick up meals and proxy pickup is not permitted. Summer learning camp students will receive on-site meals and weekend take-homes.
Fayette County Public Schools will consolidate summer meal service in 2025 from numerous daily feeding sites to a bulk pickup model operating Mondays and Thursdays at Buckley-Carpenter Elementary, LaGrange-Moscow Elementary and West Junior High School, district staff told committee members on May 21.
Under the plan families will receive three days’ meals on Mondays and four days’ meals on Thursdays; pickup will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (or until meals are distributed). Parents or guardians of record must pick up meals; proxy pickup is not permitted. Children do not have to be enrolled in the district to receive meals, and summer learning camp students will be fed on site and provided take-home meals for weekends. Additional partner locations, including community sites and the YMCA, may provide pickup support.
Mrs. Plunk said the change was driven by financial considerations and underused sites; signups via paper form or QR code will be required in advance to improve forecasting and reduce waste. The program will operate from May 28 through July 16.
