District advances CTE expansion plan and forwards consultant contract; Invenergy partnership sent to full board

Fayette County administrators presented a multi-part plan on May 21 to grow Career & Technical Education (CTE) offerings and postsecondary opportunities.
Dr. McPherson and Mr. Keel outlined the district’s “Reimagined Career Ready” initiative, which emphasizes industry-recognized credentials, expanded EPSOs and partnerships with Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) campuses. The initiative aims that, by 2030, all students will graduate with a personalized career plan and have access to postsecondary credit or credentials. Administration said some existing programs would be phased out with transition plans to protect students currently enrolled.
To support implementation, administration briefed committees on an ongoing consultant contract intended to help bridge private-model flexibility into public-school program delivery and ensure students can complete pathways; the Education committee voted 3-0 to forward the contract extension (July–December) to the full board for approval.
Separately, Chairman Warner Speakman reported that Invenergy—developer of a proposed large-scale county solar facility—has offered conditional corporate support for workforce training and possible financial support for the district’s ROTC program, described in the packet as roughly $95,000 per year for three years pending project approvals and construction milestones. Legal counsel has reviewed the proposal and the committee voted 3-0 to forward the matter to the full board for discussion and final consideration.
Board members asked administration to clarify scheduling, transportation logistics, credit transferability for dual-enrollment pathways and details on how consultant support interacts with existing programs. No final approvals were taken at the committee level; both the consultant contract extension and the Invenergy proposal will be considered by the full board.
