Glassport Borough Council on July 16 approved a series of property-management and community-event measures and reported that municipal building renovations are set to begin.
Council voted to have 102 Seventh Street (parcel #558-C-201) appraised and to re-advertise 509 Seventh Street (same parcel series) with no minimum bid after receiving no offers from previous advertisements. Both motions carried unanimously.
Council also approved a simple subdivision of two Washington Boulevard parcels (557-B-18 at 2521 Washington Blvd. and 557-B-24 at 2529 Washington Blvd.) and authorized appropriate borough officials to sign the subdivision drawing.
On community events and facilities, Councilwoman Amy Nabors said a July 12 pre-construction meeting for renovations to the police side of the borough building was held, with the architect and contractors present, and that work is scheduled to start immediately. Council approved closing the 400 block of Monongahela Avenue on Saturday, Aug. 24 for Community Day.
A letter of interest was presented about placing a community garden on the old St. Cecilia church property; council recorded the letter and will consider next steps.
What’s next
Staff will arrange the property appraisal for 102 Seventh Street and proceed with advertising steps for 509 Seventh; results and any bids will be returned to council. Contractors are scheduled to begin renovations on the police side of the Municipal Building per the pre-construction meeting notes.
