Dennis Select Board fills dozens of volunteer posts in annual appointments

The board accepted the resignation of Peter Checkaway from the Zoning Board of Appeals and then moved through appointments in alphabetical order. Joseph Saia and Stephen Boyson were appointed to the Advisory Committee on Disabilities; Ellie Friedman and Mary Davis were named to the Arts and Culture Council; Maureen McEnany was appointed to the Beach Management Advisory Committee; and Brian Hines was appointed to the Memorial Day Observance/Parade Committee. Appointments were made by motion and carried by voice vote.
The appointments reflected a mix of long‑time residents and newer members who said they wanted to give time to the town. Joseph Saia introduced himself as “a resident of Dennis for over 45 years” and said his wife is disabled, which motivated his interest in serving. Steve Boyson, who joined by Zoom, described prior advisory experience.
Board members repeatedly encouraged participation, noting several committees still have vacancies. Several appointments created other openings that the board said it will fill at a later date; the chair asked applicants who were not selected to consider other committees.
The board also approved the employment contract for Assistant Fire Chief Jeffrey Mulholland and handled routine administrative items including a Wetlands Protection Fund transfer and vendor/payroll warrants.
The Select Board said staff will follow up with applicants who submitted interest cards but could not attend the meeting; swearing‑in will be arranged through the town clerk’s office.
