DEP says Lower Pottsgrove sewer authority no longer subject to corrective action plan

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection informed the township that the Lower Pottsgrove Township Authority is no longer required to implement a Corrective Action Plan or Corrective Management Plan, ending a compliance status dating back to 2008, township officials said.
Township officials said on March 2 that the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has notified the Lower Pottsgrove Township Authority that the township’s sewer system is no longer in a projected or existing hydraulic overload and that the Authority is no longer required to implement a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) or Corrective Management Plan (CMP).
Township Manager Edward C. Wagner told the Board he received the DEP letter on Feb. 25 and credited Authority members and staff—past and present—for work leading to the change in status. Wagner noted the Authority had been subject to the CAP since 2008.
Commissioner Michael McGroarty called the removal from the CAP “monumental,” noting the effort spanned many years and involved Authority members including Fred Ebert. Wagner said Ebert attributes the achievement in part to the township’s Sewer Lateral Inspection Ordinance.
No formal votes were required at the meeting on the DEP notification; the Board expressed congratulations to Authority members and staff.
