Jennings County board approves handbook, hires, pay-scale changes, donations and service agreements
Summary
Trustees approved an updated administrative policy packet, the Panther Online Academy handbook, permission to fill positions, pay-scale adjustments, a slate of hires, donor gifts and annual MOUs with Ohio Valley Opportunities and Centerstone. The Jennings County School Corporation board approved a package of administrative and operational items at its meeting, including handbook and policy approvals, staffing actions, compensation adjustments, donations and partnership agreements.
The board voted to accept an updated set of administrative guidelines and the Panther Online Academy handbook (presented as having no substantive changes since it was shared previously). The board also approved a request to give administration permission to fill positions between meetings to manage timing between board sessions.
On compensation matters, the board approved modifications to the professional pay scale (the administration described added adder components and said the changes result in net cost savings by absorbing certain positions) and an adder to the administrative assistant pay scale tied to shifted duties.
The board approved a package of staffing recommendations presented by administration. The motion to approve the hiring slate was made by Travis and seconded by Mary Lynn; the list included summer and ongoing roles such as bus aides and drivers, summer custodial staff, summer interns, JCHS assistant coaching hires, and food service assignments. Examples read into the record included Melissa Allen (summer school bus aid), Anthony Jarvis (JCHS assistant football coach) and Christopher Roberts (JCHS custodian). The board approved the full list.
Philip presented donations for board acceptance. The board accepted donations to the Brush Creek Elementary student snack fund (memorial gifts from Elizabeth and Andrew Ebbing, $100, and Jennifer Ebbing, $100) and a $200 donation to the high school boys volleyball club (Ashley and Alex CDM).
On financial housekeeping the board adopted a standard resolution authorizing the treasurer or deputy treasurer to make payments of claims and to make appropriation transfers within education debt and operation funds as needed to balance major account classifications until the July 9, 2026 meeting.
The board also approved annual memoranda of understanding: an MOU with Ohio Valley Opportunities to permit required coordination under Title programs and an MOU with Centerstone for mental-health service coordination.
The board chair said district leaders will return in July with more information and recommendations about classroom technology and device use.
