Baldwin board honors long-serving staff, grants tenure to educators and names new high school principal

At its public meeting the Baldwin Union Free School District Board of Education honored dozens of retiring employees from across the district and approved a personnel actions report that included tenure grants for multiple staff members. The board also introduced Mr. Andre Papillo as the new principal of Baldwin Senior High School.

Board president Mr. Green and Superintendent Mr. Anthony led a program of retiree recognitions that named employees from office staff and cafeteria workers to teachers, nurses and specialists. Those honored included Helen Cassandro, who the board cited for 42 years at Plaza Elementary; Lillian Felicio, noted for nearly 30 years of service and long-time union leadership; and many others whose roles included attendance coordination, art instruction, ENL instruction, nursing and clerical services. Speakers praised professionalism, mentorship and contributions to student learning and community life.

The board then moved to the personnel actions report, which the meeting record states "Be it resolved that upon the recommendation of the superintendent of schools, the board of education approves the personnel actions report dated June" (as detailed in the mailing). The motion to approve tenure and personnel actions was moved by Miss Dresesa and seconded by Mr. Smith; trustees voted in favor and the motion carried. The board later introduced and congratulated Andre Papillo as the new Baldwin Senior High School principal. The meeting recessed briefly for photos and refreshments after the recognitions.
