Mercer County approves temporary use permits, routine revenues and purchases; J2 Studio bill withheld

At its May 20 meeting, the Mercer County Commission approved several routine land-use permits, revenue reports and county expenditures.
Tax Director and Land Use Administrator Jennifer Neumiller presented Temporary Use Permit #673 for Badlands Aggregate (a two-acre borrow pit for fill dirt to be used on a wind farm). Commissioner Casey Voigt moved to approve Temporary Use Permit #673; Commissioner Steve Guenthner seconded and all voted aye. Neumiller also presented Temporary Use Permit #674 for Fisher Sand & Gravel to reopen an old gravel pit in Mercer County; the commission approved that permit with the same motion/second pattern and unanimous vote.
Planning & Zoning Board Chairman Mike Eslinger reported on a subcommittee schedule; the next subcommittee meeting is set for June 2, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. in the Mercer County Government Center in Stanton. The commission approved extending the SRF consulting contract as needed.
The commission approved April recorder revenues of $4,149.80 and Sheriff’s revenues of $54,910.82. The commission then approved payment of the presented bills but withheld payment of a $3,330 J2 Studio invoice; the total of the approved bills was $194,465.44.
Assistant Highway Superintendent Dennis Olheiser requested purchase of a Track Skid Steer Bush Hog for $138,625 and a tire machine for $11,500. The commission approved purchasing the tire machine up to $11,500; the minutes do not record final action on the skid steer purchase.
States Attorney Todd Schwarz presented a draft Joint Powers Agreement concerning the Oliver Recorder position for the commission’s review; the minutes record no action taken on that draft. Mercer County residents Michael Berg and Wes Klein spoke during the public comment period; the minutes do not record the substance of their remarks.
The meeting adjourned at 11:06 a.m.; the next regular meeting is scheduled for June 3, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. in the Mercer County Government Center boardroom in Stanton.
