Tenino council approves fireworks ordinance updates and forwards flood-hazard code changes to Commerce for NFIP compliance

On June 9 the Tenino City Council approved two ordinances to align municipal code chapter 8.09 on fireworks with Thirsten Thurston County rules. Ordinance 941 adjusts permitted discharge times; Ordinance 942 aligns retail sales and purchase times. Both ordinances were moved, seconded and approved by voice vote; council noted local code changes become effective one year after passage.
Planning Commissioner Melissa explained that the city’s flood‑hazard regulation had been found out of compliance with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and FEMA standards. An Ecology staff member reviewed and redlined the draft language; the planning commission recommended approval. The council voted to forward the development code update to the Washington Department of Commerce for the required 60‑day notice and review so the city can regain individual eligibility in the NFIP and allow residents to pursue flood insurance.
