At the June 4 meeting, Historic Resources Board staff reported progress on a grant-funded oral-history project and previewed upcoming speaker-series events.
Gayla Hess said the grant minimum of eight interviews has been met and that funding remains to conduct additional interviews. She reported two interviews will have follow-up sessions and that a dedicated oral-history website will be completed as part of the grant by October.
The board finalized logistics for a June 11 speaker-series event: Bob Wren to greet; Terry LaValley to give introductions; Rose Nyman and Lynette Foulger to provide coffee, cups and desserts; and arrangements for a projector, screen and PA system. Lynette said she had reached out to a potential September speaker and would have a final answer by June 11; Terry offered to pursue a speaker on historic roads and trails if needed.
Members also reviewed the May 16 "Music of America" concert held for America’s 250th Birthday and National Historic Preservation Month. Lynette reported 37 attendees and positive feedback about the reception. Tammy said she would not seek reimbursement for the cake used at the concert. The board discussed possibly repeating a concert next May and suggested locating recordings if any are available.
The board also noted interest in adding a red bus tour to next year’s work plan and asked members to consider items for the coming year.
