The Anaconda Deer Lodge County Historic Resources Board voted June 4 to proceed with the photo display at Smeltermen’s Day on Saturday, Aug. 8, after members debated whether to pause the event during the summer. Tammy Mattson moved to hold the display; Lynette Foulger seconded. The motion carried with three votes in favor, Rose Nyman opposed and Chair Bob Wren abstaining.
Board members expressed differing views: Bob Wren and Terry LaValley suggested the board could use a break in July and August, while Tammy and others emphasized the display’s popularity and community value. Tammy said she was willing to pick up extra tasks and noted that “many people have visited and looked at pictures” in prior years.
The board unanimously approved reusing last year’s Smeltermen’s Day advertisement with updated information. Volunteers were assigned: setup will occur on Friday, Aug. 7; Lynette, Rose, Terry and Tammy volunteered for onsite shifts, with specific times recorded in the event checklist. The board tasked Rose with coordinating the ad with the Leader.
Action items included setting the photo-display schedule, confirming ads, and planning staffing for setup and cleanup. The meeting minutes record assigned pickup, setup and cleanup responsibilities and confirm the board will meet to set up on Friday, Aug. 7.
