Commission accepts donation of Wells Fargo building for county offices

The Anaconda-Deer Lodge County Commission voted unanimously on June 2 to accept a donated Wells Fargo building from RML Rentals LLC, a move county leaders said will help consolidate offices and improve accessibility for seniors and residents with disabilities.
CEO Bill Everett described the donation as a rare and generous opportunity and said county departments could be moved into the building to reduce circulation and accessibility problems at the courthouse. “This is amazing what he’s doing. This is something that the county needs since we’re out of space here,” Everett said, adding that employees were “super excited” about the prospect of relocating services.
County Attorney Morgan Smith told the commission that previously raised concerns about language in the agreement had been removed. Commissioner Paul Smith moved to approve the agreement; Commissioner Steve Gates seconded and the motion carried 5-0.
Commission discussion focused on operational benefits: centralized customer service, improved handicap access and consolidation of Public Health and financial services. The commission directed staff to finalize implementation details and prepare contracts or improvement plans necessary to make the building operational for county offices.
