Planning & Zoning administrator briefs board on ordinance changes, wind project notice and appealed campground

At the July 22 meeting of the Dickinson County Board of Adjustment, Planning & Zoning Administrator Megan Kardell updated the board on several administrative and project matters.
Kardell said the office is preparing changes to the county ordinance to be brought forward in August and that updated copies will be provided to the Board of Adjustment when finalized. She also reported the county received an agency notification from Red Rock Wind; depending on filing timing, Kardell said the item could be scheduled the week before Thanksgiving, noting possible timing challenges if a full board is not available.
Kardell briefed the board on Woodlyn Hills, describing it as a campground previously approved that is now the subject of a court appeal. County Attorney Steven Goodlow and Kardell discussed whether pipeline applications might come before the board. Goodlow said he did not believe pipelines would likely appear before this body; Kardell noted that if an application were filed, it could be considered as a Conditional Use permit.
During Communications, board member Cami Wills raised questions about runoff from a farm owned by Ivan Simpson toward a trail. Kardell said County Engineer Cole Budach has made a ruling and that Simpson will be required to carry out two soil-quality restoration actions; she indicated the matter is concluded from the board’s perspective.
No formal board decisions were taken on the communications items at this meeting; these updates were informational and intended to keep the board aware of pending ordinance work, a potential wind project schedule, an appealed campground, and site-specific drainage remediation.
