Plains Township adopts $13.19 million 2025 budget, approves contracts and fire-service cost ordinance

Plains Township on Dec. 12 adopted its tentative 2025 operating budget of $13,186,784.68 and approved a series of routine contracts and payments, the board said.
The board approved the budget, which lists major expenditures including police protection at $2,107,025.44 and benefits and payroll-related costs at $2,907,660.30. The treasurer reported Nov. 30 General Fund ending balance of $2,587,947.60. Commissioner Robert Sax said the board “always try[s] to not raise anyone's taxes and keep the budget balanced.”
In addition to the budget vote, commissioners authorized payment applications tied to capital projects: $6,318.47 to Smith Miller Roofing for the 50 Second Street Fire House improvement project and a combined $18,561.94 to American Asphalt Paving Co. for the Plains Township 2024 Paving Project. The board moved to pay General Fund bills totaling $332,055.61 (utility bills $25,609.48; regular bills $306,446.13); that motion carried with Commissioner Ciro Cinti recorded as abstaining on an Assured Partners item.
The board also adopted an ordinance authorizing recovery of service costs for fire and rescue services and approved a resolution and all documentation related to the 2025 Tax Anticipation Note. Commissioners approved a 12-month electricity supply contract with Constellation Energy at $0.06313 per kilowatt-hour effective Dec. 13, 2024.
All motions described at the meeting were adopted by the board during the Dec. 12 session. Several items were presented by the solicitor or department representatives and carried on motions and seconds recorded in the minutes. The board set its next regular meeting for Jan. 9, 2025, at 7:00 p.m.
