Erin, a district staff member, told the Clear Creek School District No. Re-1 board at its Aug. 12 study session that Excel Energy has requested a new easement across the King Murphy site to reroute a failing underground power line that feeds the school's generator. She said the proposed route is through unused hillside and staff lots and would not affect current campus operations.
"They would like an easement basically running from the upper lot of King Murphy ... up to where the generator is currently located," Erin said, adding that Excel is covering all project costs and would abandon the old line in place. Board members asked about compensation and requested a site survey; Erin said financial terms had not yet been discussed.
Board members emphasized minimizing disruption to instruction and asked staff to coordinate construction timing with the school calendar. Erin said Excel proposed spring work and that the planned service switchover would limit outages to about 15 minutes.
The board agreed to send the proposed easement language to district counsel Brent for review and requested that staff obtain a site survey and confirm scheduling that avoids student-impact periods (for example, spring break). No formal vote occurred at the study session; staff will return recommendations and legal revisions at a later meeting.
What happens next: staff will forward easement verbiage to counsel for legal review, seek a site survey, and follow up with Excel on timing and any financial or survey arrangements before returning to the board with a recommendation.
