Lovington board approves $200,000 Title I grant to support New Hope High School credit recovery

The Lovington Municipal Schools Board of Education approved a proposed Title I School Improvement and Transformation grant that would allocate roughly $200,000 for New Hope High School in the 2026–27 school year.
Miss Stevens, who led the grant writing effort for the district, told the board the funds would support school-improvement staffing, teacher professional development and a night-school credit-recovery model designed to let students earn up to three credits per six-week session using an accelerated, teacher-guided e-learning curriculum. "We are looking to use that funding for professional development for those teachers as well as consideration for a night school credit recovery model," Stevens said.
Administrators described the planned schedule as two six-week evening sessions with optional additional nights, with sessions running about 90 minutes and staffed at the district's standard rate for supplemental instruction. Board members were told the grant is intended to serve the district's students who need accelerated credit recovery and that required assurances and oversight documents must be filed prior to final grant approval by the state.
On a motion and second, the board voted to approve the grant and the associated assurances. The district said it would upload required documentation and follow Title I requirements for use and oversight of the funds.
