The City Council took a moment at its June 10 meeting to recognize Captain Kelly Craig for his service with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department and to welcome Captain Mauricio Herado as the new station commander.
Mayor and council praised Craig's responsiveness to the community and presented a visual memento from Big Bear Theater Project; Craig thanked the city and his staff, saying he had "enjoyed support from the city that has been unreal since I've been here." The council wished him well in his next assignment within the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
Captain Mauricio Herado ("Mo") was introduced as the new commanding officer for the Big Bear Sheriff's Station; Herado said he was honored to serve and looked forward to meeting staff and residents.
Why it matters: Local leadership transitions in public safety can affect community relationships and operational continuity; the recognition formalizes the station-level leadership change and gives the public an opportunity to acknowledge departing and incoming officers.
