Students receive town certificate after winning youth climate grant and recycling milestones

The Greenburgh Town Board honored the founders of the Kids Upcycling Club at its April 9 meeting and heard students describe early results from their project to reduce plastic pollution.
Supervisor Paul Feiner presented a certificate to the students and invited them to speak. One of the students said the club had "recycled over 1,500 bottle caps and donate[d] over $3,000 to the ocean cleanup," and noted the project won a Youth Climate Action Philanthropy Bloomberg grant of $2,275 to help launch the program.
The students described upcycling as a way to turn waste into products that support environmental nonprofits and said they used grant funds to buy materials and cover project costs. The board asked staff to prepare a certificate for the students' partner and cofounder mentioned during the presentation.
The recognition highlighted a town-supported pathway for youth climate engagement and local recycling education; the board did not allocate additional town funds at the meeting.
