The Houston ISD Board of Managers approved a number of items June 11, including acceptance of the audit committee report and a monitoring update on college- and career-readiness, several financial motions and a package of personnel actions authorized after a closed session.
Audit and monitoring: The board voted to accept the audit committee report (motion by Board Member Cologne, second by Board Member Rosales). The vote on the audit committee report was recorded as seven in favor, zero opposed. The board then accepted the monitoring update on goal progress measures (motion by Board Member Rosales, second by Board Member Cologne); that motion also passed with seven in favor and no oppositions.
Budget and financial items: Board members approved a June budget amendment and adopted several financial resolutions, including a resolution concerning SEC-compliant no-load money market mutual funds and an updated list of approved broker-dealers. Motions were made and seconded on the record; the bulk consent agenda was approved by consensus (the tally for the remainder of the agenda was recorded as eight in favor, zero opposed).
Closed session personnel actions: After recessing into closed session under Texas Government Code, the board reconvened and approved a package of personnel actions discussed in closed session. The open meeting record shows a motion (by Board Member Garza Lner, second by Board Member Cologne) to approve proposed terminations and renewals/nonrenewals, suspensions without pay and to authorize the superintendent or designee to provide notice; the motion passed (recorded as seven in favor, none opposed). The board also voted to approve the sale of a surplus property (SB260397 Kirby/Oram Drive) and authorized the board vice president to complete the sale.
Why it matters: The personnel approvals and contract actions have direct, immediate effects on staffing across the district. The financial resolutions and budget amendments set the district on the path to the June 25 adoption vote and shape short-term cash management and investment decisions.
The motions and vote tallies recorded in the open meeting minutes are the board’s official actions. Where explicit individual yea/nay records were not read into the transcript, the meeting recorded the numerical result and the movers/seconders for each motion.
