Sanilac County approves new self-funded Meritain Health plans, sets premium caps

Effective July 1, 2023 the board approved three self-funded Meritain Health plans for active employees and non-Medicare retirees, set revised premium contribution caps per Michigan Department of Treasury limits, and authorized a Delta Dental self-funded dental plan.
The Sanilac County Board of Commissioners voted May 16 to offer three self-funded Meritain Health plans for active employees and non-Medicare-eligible retirees effective July 1, 2023: a POS plan with $250/$500 deductible; a POS plan with $2,000/$4,000 deductible; and a POS Health Savings Account plan with $3,300/$6,600 deductibles and an employer-funded deposit paid quarterly.
The board also authorized revised employee premium contribution limits to comply with the Michigan Department of Treasury hard cap amounts listed in the motion: $7,551.16 for single coverage, $15,791.83 for double coverage, and $20,594.13 for family coverage (MCL 15.563, as amended). Medicare-eligible retirees were authorized to remain on the Humana/Varipro Medicare Advantage $0 deductible plan through Dec. 31, 2023, with revised premium contribution rates beginning July 1, 2023. The board further authorized a self-funded Delta Dental plan effective July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.
