Regional planning staff told the board they have completed more than 25 stakeholder interviews and are preparing a focus‑group meeting and a public outreach session in early August to vet recommendations for local regulations and best practices on data‑center siting and impacts.
Director Jeremy Smith said the team is synthesizing interviews with environmental groups, energy and water providers, business representatives, tribal partners and agencies; staff will present a prioritized set of recommendations at the TMRPA governing board meeting on August 13 and will also publish a public webpage and survey for ongoing comment. The study will also identify issues that require state‑level or regional coordination, such as energy procurement, transmission impacts and long‑term water availability.
Members requested confirmation that tribal nations and labor groups are included in outreach; staff said the Reno‑Sparks Indian Colony and Pyramid Lake/Paiute representatives were being contacted and that labor representatives had participated in interviews. The board asked staff to ensure any transportation, public‑safety or fiscal impacts identified are clearly documented in the final recommendations.
Staff promised a draft report and a public meeting before the August 13 board meeting and invited board members and the public to the upcoming focus group and outreach events.
