The South Kingstown School Committee approved a revision to the Ocean State Transit transportation contract after administrators explained additional operational costs that were not included in the base bid total previously reported.
The district reported a sole winning base bid of $3,632,310 for RFP 2471. The superintendent explained the base bid does not include certain operational services—midday preK runs, monitors for smaller buses, and late/after‑school buses—which are priced separately on the submitted bid pricing sheets. Those add‑ons total $1,190,238.50, producing a grand total FY27 projected cost of $4,822,548.50 for the services the district expects to require.
"That base bid amount was the winning bid: $3,632,310," the superintendent said. "The total anticipated cost to Ocean State with the base bid and the additional operating costs is $4,822,548.50." The administration clarified the add‑ons are priced per the vendor's submitted price sheets and vary with program enrollment and service levels.
Committee members asked how the add‑ons were calculated and whether costs would change if preK enrollment or after‑school runs changed; administration said the pricing comes directly from the vendor's price sheet and the district can add or remove optional services as enrollment and program needs change.
The committee approved the revised totals by voice vote.
The transcript records the revised totals and the committee's approval; it does not provide a member‑by‑member roll call for the approval.
