Paint Creek EMS board reports staffing shortfalls, ambulance remounts and new coverage contract

The Health, Safety & Welfare Committee presented updates from the Paint Creek joint EMS/Fire District board at the Village of Greenfield's May 18 meeting.
Councilman David Weaks, reporting on the April 28 district board meeting, said the district has hired a new full-time firefighter/paramedic (the hire is approximately halfway through paramedic classes) but overall staffing remains below target for all shifts. Weaks noted an on-scene lieutenant suffered an injury and is off duty for an undetermined period. The board held live-fire training on March 28 that involved roughly 60 firefighters from nine departments.
On fleet maintenance, Weaks said the first ambulance has returned to service after re-chassis work and the second ambulance was taken for remount with a $4,500 trade-in allowance for the prior chassis. The district approved a contract with Brushcreek Township for EMS coverage; the contract was finalized and signed by district officials. The board also approved an appropriations amendment to cover the squad remount, accepted a $200 donation from the VFW, and approved a vacation payout for Chief Manning. The chief has received notice to begin IAFF contract negotiations.
The Paint Creek board's next meeting was scheduled for May 26, 2026 at Rainsboro Station #22 at 7:00 p.m., according to the committee report presented to Greenfield council.
