Council outlines nine‑member stakeholder group for Road Safety Improvement Project

The Emigration Canyon City Council and consultant Avenue discussed forming a stakeholder working group to guide public input and identify corridor needs for the Road Safety Improvement Project.

Council Member Catherine Harris described the group's role as convening representatives to identify issues, review decisions, provide input on messaging and identify corridor needs—not to function as a steering committee or produce formal recommendations. H.G. Kunzler of Avenue outlined goals including establishing consensus on decision processes and ensuring consistent public messaging.

The council discussed potential members and provisionally agreed to a nine‑person list: Dale Barrett (Planning Commission), Detective Dawn Larsen (UPD public safety representative), resident Jessica Steed (property adjacent to improvements), Council Member Catherine Harris, Council Member Nicholas Griffith, Brian Johansson (community council member, cyclist), Mike Sanguinetti (resident/ cyclist), Corinne Sherig (resident and bike commuter), and a UDOT representative. City Attorney Cameron Platt cautioned the council that participation is voluntary, recommended contacting nominees for consent, and suggested making a motion at the next regular meeting to authorize outreach and formal appointment once confirmations are received.

Council Member Robert Pinon recommended Bike Utah as a resource for broader cycling engagement. Council Member Harris noted interest in recruiting a younger cyclist (her son, Ian Bird, was mentioned as a possible referral) but that he could not be formally appointed because of the familial relationship to a council member without further steps.

Next steps: staff will contact proposed members to confirm willingness to serve and the council will consider a motion at its next regular meeting to authorize formal appointments if nominees accept.
