Board approves 2027–28 calendar and grants additional non‑resident transfers as enrollment remains near prior year

The Mill Creek Community School Corporation board unanimously approved the 2027–28 calendar, which shifts the district to a Thursday–Friday start on July 27 and lists possible snow make‑up days to comply with state guidance.

Administrators also presented a batch of additional non‑resident transfer approvals for the 2026–27 school year (roughly 14 students) and asked trustees to grant permission to enroll those students; the board approved the additional transfers, which bring the non‑resident transfer total to just under 80 for the spring window. Administration said the official non‑resident transfer window closed June 1, but that late applications will be handled case‑by‑case and that records delays mean additional approvals could come in July.

On enrollment, administrators reported the district is planning for about 1,578 students next year (down slightly from prior years’ October counts in the 1,583–1,590 range). They said the most significant driver of the decline is a smaller kindergarten cohort this year, with staffing and sectioning plans to be adjusted if more students enroll over the summer. "We are currently at 1,578 in enrollment," an administrator said, noting the district expects to remain roughly flat or regain a few students as late transfers and registrations are processed.

Board members asked for clarification on total enrollment changes year‑to‑year and were told record‑keeping and staff availability over the summer can delay final counts; administrators said they would provide updated, finalized October count comparisons at the fall reporting cycle.

Both calendar and transfer approvals passed on unanimous voice votes.
